PharmD (Doctor of Pharmacy)

Eligibility: 12th pass with science stream or B Pharma pass student can take admission in directly 4th year. This is 5 years classroom and 1-year Internship in a hospital.

Pharm. D. is a Doctorate program in pharmacy. It is also commonly known as Pharma D. This degree gives authorization to students who have completed this six-year course can use the prefix Doctor ( Dr) to / her name.

This course is introduced to improve clinical and hospital pharmacy services. They are directly involved in the medicines given to the patients. The system works like this, The MBBS doctor will diagnose the patient and give the report to the Pharm D Doctor and then they will prescribe the medicine considering the patient’s medical history.

If you are not eligible in NEET then also you can get admission in PharmD.

Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate) is a three-year program including two years of study with clinical training involving posting in specialty units in a 300-bed multi-specialty hospital forward round participation, training in the Drug information center, training in Pharmacy, and a one-year internship there.

  • What is a Pharm.D course?
  • Pharm D is a Doctorate Degree Program in Pharmacy. It is also commonly known as Pharm D. After completing this 6-year course of Pharm D, a student can get the authorization to use the prefix Doctor(Dr) to his/her name.
    Pharma D was introduced in 2008 by PCI.
    Pharm D is introduced to improve the clinical and hospital Pharmacy services. Pharm D includes clinical, Pharmacy, Paramedical, and patient care. Pharm d doctor deals with the medicines prescribed to the patient. The system works like this, the Doctors will diagnose the patient and give the report and then the Pharm D doctor will prescribe the medicines keeping the medical history of the patient in consideration.
  • What is Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate)?
  • Pharm.D (PB) course is a Professional Pharmacy doctoral Programme. B. Pharm graduates shall be admitted as lateral entry candidates to the 4th year of the Pharm.D program & the duration
    of course, is 3 academic years ( 2yrs of study and 1 year of internship or residency).
  • What are the eligibility criteria to join Pharm.D courses?
  • For Pharm.D:
    i) A pass in 10+2 examination with Physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects along with one of the following subjects: Mathematics or Biology.
    ii) A pass in the D.Pharm course from an institution approved by the Pharmacy Council of India under section 12 of The Pharmacy Act.
    For Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate):
    i) A pass in B.Pharm from an institution approved by the Pharmacy Council of India under section 12 of the Pharmacy Act.
  • How many numbers of admissions will be made by the institution for the Pharm.D and Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate)?
    Several admissions for the Pharm.D program shall be as prescribed by the Pharmacy Council of India from time to time. It is presently restricted to 30 students intake for Pharm.D & 10 students for Pharm D (PB) per academic year.
  • Whether the Pharm.D is a registrable qualification?
    Yes, Pharm.D is a registrable qualification under the Pharmacy Act
    1948.
  • In what way does Pharm.D differs from regular B.Pharm?
    The duration of the B Pharma course is 4 years whereas the duration of the Pharma D course is 6 years.
    B parma is a graduate course in Pharmacy whereas Pharm D is a Doctorate course in Pharmacy.
    In Pharm D you can prefix Doctor to his/her name but not in B Pharm.
    After completing 4 years of B pharm, you can go for the Post Baccalaureate course for 3 years, equivalent to Pharm D degrees.
    Pharm D students have more job opportunities compared to B Pharm.
    Pharmdoctors will work in hospitals whereas B pharm students work in Pharmacy industries or the Marketing Department.
  • After completion of Pharm D am I eligible for Ph.D.?
    Yes. After Pharm.D the candidate is eligible to register for Ph.D.

    Yes, to practice the Pharmacy Profession under the Pharmacy Act.

  • The pharmacist is a higher salaried professional in the US or other foreign countries where pharmacists are allowed to prescribe the patient and who change more than a physician. Pharm D is better if you are interested in the clinical side and B pharm is better for the industry side. These are some fields where PharmD doctors already started their services.   • Pharm d can’t start a clinic for diagnosis purposes but they can start a clinic for community general checkups, patient counseling, prescription suggestion, prescription verification, drug management, and disease management. All these Pharm d can cooperate with any MBBS he can also start a clinic for diagnosis.
